The Gratianus degree is issued by the University Paris-Sud, in connection with universities of various EU member States, within the ERASMUS agreements.

GRATIANUS above all aims at training young researchers on issues related to Law and Religion. It is in priority – but not exclusively – designed for PHD candidates who are decided on an academic career.
The course takes place in Paris for three months and starts each year on October 1st. It is taught by eminent scholars in Law and Religion from various European universities, partners of the programme, and deal with many issues such as religion and the workplace, religion at school, discrimination, laïcités, EU and ECHR law.

Since the creation of this programme in 1991, over 250 students attended it, 80 are now postgraduate with a PHD in Law and many of them still work in the research area or have a position at university.
The main asset of Gratianus is the success in creating a net of young and expert scholars throughout Europe.
The Paris-Sud Center of Research Droit et sociétés religieuses is a frame for those various researches and organizes conferences, seminars and international meetings in connection with the works carried out within the Gratianus Programme. This Center welcomes PHD students and foreign scholars and supports the enlargement and renewal of the Canon Law as well as the Law and Religion studies.
