Religion and Security in Global Affairs: Friends or Foes?

In many parts of the world, religion and security are strictly interconnected. In contexts where institutions are frail, it is often religious groups that have a good understanding of the local dimensions as well as a capacity to address the pressing needs of the population. Religion can then offer solutions. On the other end, religion can also be used to destabilise domestic and foreign political contexts, as shown by numerous international examples just in the last few months.

This Mediterranean Platform Talk will investigate the ambivalent relationship between religion and security in an international context. The Talk builds upon the findings of the last issue of the Review of Faith and International Affairs devoted to “Religion and Comprehensive Security”, edited by Pasquale Annicchino and Judd Birdsall.
